The University of Sharjah is hosting a major conference on how artificial intelligence can support Arabic language development.
SHARJAH: The University of Sharjah will host the second Sharjah International Conference on the Arabic Language on Wednesday, 4 February, spotlighting the role of artificial intelligence in language preservation, education and innovation. Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the event is themed Artificial Intelligence in the Service of the Arabic Language: Creativity, Education, and Research.
This year’s conference brings together nearly 100 researchers from over 28 countries, with 60 rigorously reviewed papers accepted for presentation. The focus lies on how AI technologies can enhance Arabic language education, literary creativity, and scientific research.
Organised by the university to align with its mission to advance Arabic language studies in higher education, the event will feature main and parallel sessions, specialised workshops, and keynote discussions. A strong emphasis will be placed on the practical application of artificial intelligence in fields such as natural language processing, smart education tools, translation, and text analysis.
Dr Mariam Balajid, head of the conference’s organising committees, said the conference offers a scientific platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange among academics, researchers, and education professionals from the UAE, Arab world, and beyond.
A highlight of this year’s event is the inaugural Sharjah International Award for Best Artificial Intelligence Application Serving the Arabic Language. The award recognises innovation in Arabic content creation and applied AI tools that promote the language’s presence in modern digital contexts.
Dr Badia Al-Hashemi, head of the Arabic Language and Literature Department at UOS, reaffirmed the conference’s aim of sustaining the Arabic language and its role in cultural and academic development. She said its outcomes would support decision-makers and reinforce Sharjah’s leadership in promoting the humanities.
