The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Abu Dhabi (IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi), the inaugural international branch of the esteemed IIT-Delhi, has introduced a master’s program in Energy Transition and Sustainability (ETS) at Zayed University campus.

Commencing in January 2024, IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi’s ETS master’s program is tailor-made for the Abu Dhabi campus, with a focus on preparing professionals and scholars in the energy industry and related sectors. The objective is to equip them with the necessary knowledge and expertise to implement sustainable approaches and solutions.

The program’s significance is heightened by the fact that the UAE is gearing up to host this year’s eagerly anticipated COP28, aligning with the country’s Year of Sustainability in 2023. Aligned with the overarching goals of the UAE National Energy Strategy 2050, the program seeks to empower graduates with a profound understanding of cutting-edge technology and forward-thinking policy frameworks in line with efforts to cultivate a new generation of leaders capable of navigating the complex challenges of energy transition.

Established following a historic memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by IIT-Delhi and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) in July, IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi aims to play a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable future in the UAE and beyond.

His Excellency Mubarak Hamad Al Mheiri, Undersecretary at ADEK, expressed the program’s significance, stating that by nurturing highly skilled human resources capable of addressing increasingly complex challenges associated with energy transition, the initiative is committed to empowering individuals to drive positive change and spearhead a transformative journey towards a greener, more resilient world.

Applicants for the ETS master’s program with backgrounds in science and engineering will undertake a two-year program at IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi. Upon successful completion, graduates will possess the confidence and adaptability to work collaboratively across diverse disciplinary backgrounds, kickstarting their careers in fields related to the energy sector.

Prospective students, demonstrating proficiency in written and spoken English, are required to hold a four-year bachelor’s degree in various engineering disciplines or a master’s degree in physics or chemistry. The selection process adheres to IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi’s rigorous standards to ensure the selection of the best candidates.
