Dubai’s RTA has introduced a smart bus response system powered by artificial intelligence, enabling faster operational decisions, improved service continuity and enhanced public transport efficiency across the emirate.
DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a smart bus response system designed to improve the efficiency and reliability of the city’s public transport network. Powered by artificial intelligence, the new platform enables operators to make operational decisions in under one minute, significantly reducing the previous response time of between 30 and 60 minutes.
The smart system continuously monitors more than 1,100 buses and supports 26 operational scenarios. It automatically identifies the most suitable vehicles for deployment during service disruptions, special events or unexpected operational changes. The initiative is aimed at maintaining seamless transport services while improving passenger experience.
The smart bus response system also works alongside other public transport modes, including Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram. By responding instantly to changes across the wider transport network, the platform helps ensure smooth passenger movement and uninterrupted services throughout the city.
Marwan Al Zarooni, Director of Buses at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, said the Decision Support System was developed by the Bus Operations Control Centre in partnership with the Artificial Intelligence Centre within the Corporate Technology Support Services Sector. He explained that the project uses RTA’s enterprise Dataiku platform to strengthen real-time decision-making and improve operational efficiency.
According to Al Zarooni, the platform combines live operational data, machine learning and advanced optimisation algorithms to identify the best available buses for deployment based on current transport conditions. This approach helps maintain network performance while minimising the impact of service disruptions.
The launch reflects RTA’s commitment to expanding the use of advanced technologies to build a smarter, more flexible and sustainable transport system. The smart bus response system also supports Dubai’s wider smart city ambitions by delivering proactive services that meet growing customer expectations and accommodate the emirate’s rapid urban development.
