Abu Dhabi: The Joint Traffic Safety Committee, part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), has started a new project to help motorcycle delivery drivers in Abu Dhabi. This initiative involves creating shaded rest areas at shopping malls.

DMT, through Abu Dhabi Mobility, encouraged mall managers to make better conditions for delivery drivers, especially during the hot summer months. They suggested adding seating, water coolers, and mobile phone charging stations to these rest areas. They also advised placing the rest areas near common pick-up and drop-off points for easy access.

The Joint Committee’s efforts also include issuing parking permits for four buses. These buses serve as temporary rest stops for drivers in Khalifa City, Shamkhah, Al Wathbah, and Al Ain City. Additionally, permanent rest areas are being established at four locations: Abu Dhabi Island, Khalifa City, and Shakhbout City.

The Joint Traffic Safety Committee aims to reduce traffic accidents and injuries through various actions. These include implementing modern traffic systems, promoting safe driving through public awareness campaigns, and working with different community groups to improve overall safety.
