Google has officially been knocked off the top spot for being the most popular domain.

It didn’t happen until late 2021, according to Cloudflare Radar’s popularity ranking, but it’s still happened.

Taking the title now is none other than TikTok —  the video-sharing app that has blown up over the last couple of years.

It first emerged as the most popular back on February 17, 2021, but that only lasted for one day. It then again rose to number one in March and it stayed on top for a few more days.

The same happened in May and after 10 August, TikTok was the most popular domain most days — passing fellow social media platforms such as Facebook.

Putting them in order of popularity, Cloudflare Radar listed:

1) TikTok.com

2) Google.com

3) Facebook.com

4) Microsoft.com

5) Apple.com

6) Amazon.com

7) YouTube.com

8) Netflix.com

9) WhatApp.com

10) Instagram.com

That’s not all TikTok did either because the platform topped the charts for App Downloads Globally on Christmas Day, according to App Annie.

The mobile data and analytics company said that all over the world on December 25, 2021, TikTok was the most downloaded across iOS and Google Play.

That’s a lot of teenagers getting new phones and other devices.

Next up on the list was Instagram, followed by Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat and Facebook Messenger.

From there, Telegram ranked #7 as consumers continue to prioritise encrypted messaging services along with strong network effects from a growing user base.

Shopee came in at number eight which was driven by strong uptake in India, LATAM and Southeast Asia – just in case you haven’t heard of it.

Spotify ranked #9 globally for downloads. The music streaming app likely received a boost in demand from its end of year ‘wrapped’ campaign that has been widely shared on social media.

In the UK, the NHS app ranked #1 by downloads on Christmas as consumers sought to access their COVID Pass for vaccination or test results amidst holiday travel.

Amazon Alexa ranked #5 which could indicate Internet of Things (IoT) products topping Christmas wish lists this year.
