RTA has introduced a new environmental initiative for delivery companies, encouraging them to switch to eco-friendly electric bikes.

Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a new environmental initiative for delivery companies, encouraging them to switch to eco-friendly electric bikes. The plan focuses on improving the infrastructure for commercial transport businesses, revising licensing and registration procedures, and creating experimental charging stations for electric bike batteries. These steps are crucial to achieve the goal of using sustainable, clean, and environmentally friendly power for these bikes.

Explaining the initiative, Muhannad Khaled Al Muhairi, Director of Commercial Transport Activities at RTA’s Licensing Agency, said, “This project is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to make sustainable transportation more efficient and user-friendly. It aims to provide better and sustainable services in line with Dubai Vision 2030, which aims to reduce carbon emissions by 30%. This initiative also aligns with the goals of the Year of Sustainability 2023.

“The purpose of this initiative is to expand and improve current and future commercial transport services, promoting a shift towards transportation with zero emissions. It reflects a greater responsibility towards the community. In collaboration with industry experts, RTA has started researching and developing an e-bike prototype suitable for delivery services. This encourages companies in the field to adopt green and eco-friendly transportation,” he explained.

“The plan also includes setting up charging stations across Dubai to support the gradual shift to electric bikes, reducing operational costs by decreasing reliance on fossil fuels. It will also improve safety by using electric bikes with advanced technology, which is better than traditional motorcycles, leading to fewer accidents.
