The Hotpack solar project at National Industries Park in Dubai has won the Renewable Energy Initiative Award at Gulfood Manufacturing 2026. The 2.2 MW rooftop installation is expected to generate 3.52 million kWh of clean electricity annually and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 2,992 tonnes.
DUBAI: The Hotpack solar project at National Industries Park (NIP) in Dubai has won the Renewable Energy Initiative Award at the Gulfood Manufacturing Industry Excellence Awards 2026, recognising the UAE packaging manufacturer’s investment in cleaner energy and sustainable industrial operations.
The award celebrates Hotpack’s 2.2-megawatt rooftop solar installation, one of the largest in the industrial zone, designed to generate approximately 3.52 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable electricity annually.
Completed in April 2025, the installation was developed in collaboration with Clenergize Consultants and Al Baraka Energy.
The recognition marks Hotpack’s first win at the Gulfood Manufacturing Industry Excellence Awards.
How much clean energy will Hotpack’s solar installation generate?
The rooftop system is expected to produce 3.52 million kWh of electricity annually, helping reduce the company’s reliance on conventional energy sources.
According to Hotpack, the installation could also prevent approximately 2,992 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
The company estimates this environmental benefit is equivalent to planting more than 142,476 trees annually.
Beyond lowering emissions, the Hotpack solar project is intended to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs at the Dubai manufacturing facility.
The development supports the company’s longer-term ambition to become a carbon-neutral business.
Hotpack leadership highlights renewable energy investment
Abdul Jebbar PB, Managing Director and Group CEO of Hotpack Global, described the award as recognition of the company’s approach to sustainable manufacturing.
“This recognition is a proud moment for everyone at Hotpack. The Gulfood Manufacturing Industry Excellence Award validates what we have long believed, that sustainability and operational excellence are not competing priorities but complementary ones.”
He added that renewable energy investment forms part of a wider strategy to create value for customers while reducing environmental impact.
Zainudeen PB, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, said the solar installation had already improved the company’s energy independence and cost efficiency.
How is Hotpack expanding its sustainability initiatives?
Hotpack has introduced several environmental initiatives alongside its renewable energy investments.
These include using post-consumer recycled materials in packaging production and adopting H-rPET technology, which combines recycled PET with advanced polymers.
The company has also launched its Eco Loop recycling initiative in collaboration with RECAPP by Veolia.
Founded in Dubai in 1995, Hotpack now operates across 25 locations worldwide, exports to more than 107 countries and offers over 4,000 packaging products.
Impact to expect
The Hotpack solar project could encourage greater adoption of rooftop renewable energy across Dubai’s manufacturing sector. Its expected electricity generation and emissions reductions demonstrate how industrial businesses can pursue operational savings while supporting the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 objectives.
The award highlights the growing importance of clean energy investment in making UAE manufacturing more environmentally sustainable and internationally competitive.
