Sharjah EV charging network will grow with over 100 fast chargers deployed through a new SRTA and ION partnership.

SHARJAH: The Sharjah EV charging network is set for major expansion following a new agreement between Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority and ION. The partnership aims to deploy more than 100 fast electric vehicle chargers across the emirate, strengthening infrastructure for sustainable mobility.

The agreement was signed at BEEAH Headquarters by H.E. Eng. Yousif Khamis Mohammed Al Othmani and Khaled Al Huraimel, marking a significant step in aligning public and private sector efforts. The Sharjah EV charging network will extend across Sharjah City, as well as the Central and Eastern regions, addressing growing demand among electric vehicle users.

Authorities confirmed the initiative follows a newly introduced regulatory framework by the Sharjah Executive Council, aimed at accelerating EV adoption. The project will also involve coordination with Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority to ensure efficient rollout and adherence to infrastructure standards.

ION, a joint venture between BEEAH and Crescent Enterprises, will act as the emirate’s first licensed Charge Point Operator. The company will oversee deployment, operations and maintenance, while also offering a digital platform that allows users to locate chargers, monitor sessions in real time and complete payments seamlessly.

Officials highlighted that the Sharjah EV charging network will contribute to reducing carbon emissions and enhancing urban sustainability. The initiative is also expected to support electric buses and taxis as part of a broader shift towards green transport solutions.

The project builds on ION’s earlier platform launch in 2025 and reflects wider UAE ambitions to create future-ready infrastructure. With integrated technology and large-scale deployment, the initiative is positioned to play a key role in advancing Sharjah’s transition to cleaner mobility.
