Samsung marked the arrival of the Galaxy Z Fold8 in the UAE by creating a human formation in the shape of its latest foldable smartphone above Dubai’s skyline.

DUBAI: Samsung Gulf Electronics has unveiled one of its boldest regional launch celebrations by transforming the skies above Dubai into a tribute to the Galaxy Z Fold8. In partnership with Skydive Dubai, the company organised an aerial stunt in which 20 professional skydivers formed the shape of Samsung’s newest foldable smartphone thousands of feet above the city.

The activation followed the global unveiling of the Galaxy Z Fold8 during Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22. Against the backdrop of Palm Jumeirah, the skydivers exited an aircraft before carefully positioning themselves in freefall to recreate the device’s distinctive foldable design, demonstrating precision, coordination and timing.

Each participant wore either the new Galaxy Watch Ultra2 or Galaxy Watch9 to help synchronise movements and maintain formation during the jump. Samsung said the watches played a key role in ensuring split-second accuracy throughout the aerial performance.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 is Samsung’s lightest foldable in the series to date, weighing 201 grams. It introduces a redesigned form factor featuring a 10:16 cover display for everyday use and a larger 4:3 main screen that opens into a tablet-like viewing experience for entertainment, reading and productivity.

Samsung also documented the entire project through a cinematic campaign film, capturing the team’s preparation, rehearsals and the final jump over Dubai. UAE extreme sports athlete, skydiver and jetsuit pilot Ahmed Al Shehhi joined the activation, following the formation during the descent while recording footage using the Galaxy Z Fold8 from mid-air.

Fadi Abu Shamat, Vice President and Head of the Mobile eXperience Division at Samsung Gulf Electronics, said the campaign reflected the company’s vision of encouraging people to push boundaries through innovation. He added that the Galaxy Z Fold8 challenges conventional smartphone design, while the Dubai activation symbolised turning ambition into action in one of the world’s most recognisable skylines.

The launch event also highlighted the capabilities of the Galaxy Watch Ultra2, which Samsung says is designed for demanding outdoor environments. The smartwatch features a titanium body, sapphire crystal display, an IP69K durability rating and a display with up to 5,000 nits of brightness for visibility in challenging conditions.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 activation is among Samsung Gulf Electronics’ first major regional campaigns following Galaxy Unpacked and showcases the company’s continued focus on combining technology with large-scale experiential marketing in the Middle East.
