Al Maya marks India Independence Day across its UAE supermarkets with festive displays, Indian products and convenient digital payment options.

DUBAI: Al Maya Supermarkets is marking India Independence Day across the UAE with festive in-store displays, an extensive selection of Indian products and payment options designed to serve residents and visitors.

India will commemorate its 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026. Al Maya says the occasion provides an opportunity to recognise the country’s cultural heritage, development and innovation, alongside the longstanding relationship between the UAE and India.

Supermarkets across the UAE have been decorated with an Independence Day theme, while stores are offering products catering to customers from different regions of India.

The range includes rice, flour, pulses, spices, cooking ingredients, pickles, snacks, confectionery, beverages and Indian sweets. Dairy, frozen and ready-to-cook foods are also available alongside personal care products, household essentials and regional favourites.

Al Maya has worked with Indian manufacturers, exporters and brands for more than four decades, helping bring Indian food and consumer products to shoppers in the UAE.

The celebrations also highlight expanding commercial ties between the two countries. The UAE-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which came into force in May 2022, has supported market access and created additional opportunities for businesses in both markets.

Digital payments have become another visible part of these connections. Al Maya says eligible RuPay cardholders can use RuPay-enabled payment facilities at its supermarkets, subject to international usage arrangements set by issuing banks. UPI payments are also available across its UAE outlets.

Kamal Vachani, Deputy CEO, Group Director and Partner of Al Maya Group, said: “On the proud occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, I extend my warmest greetings to the people of India and to the vibrant Indian community residing in the United Arab Emirates.”

He described the relationship between the two countries as being built on “mutual trust, respect, shared aspirations and deep people-to-people connections”.

For Al Maya, India Independence Day also provides an opportunity to connect its retail presence with the UAE’s multicultural population. The retailer says its product selection and payment facilities are intended to offer Indian residents and visitors a familiar and convenient shopping experience.

The initiative combines cultural celebration with retail offerings while highlighting the broader commercial and people-to-people connections between India and the UAE.

Impact to expect

The celebrations could increase seasonal demand for Indian food and household products while highlighting the growing retail, trade and digital payment connections between the UAE and India.
