Major combat operations against Iran have begun, President Donald Trump confirmed, warning of possible US casualties and wider escalation.
WASHINGTON: Major combat operations in Iran have been launched by the United States, President Donald Trump said on Saturday, marking a dramatic escalation in regional tensions. In a video shared on Truth Social, Trump warned Americans that the military action could result in casualties as US forces target Iranian military assets.
The strikes are aimed at destroying Iranian missile systems and “annihilating its navy”, according to the president. The announcement follows repeated warnings from the United States and Israel that further action would be taken if Tehran continued advancing its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes. Officials said the operation is focused on limiting Iran’s military capabilities and reducing perceived long term threats.
“I do not make this statement lightly. The Iranian regime seeks to kill,” Trump said in the video message. He acknowledged the risks involved, adding, “The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost and we may have casualties that often happens in war, but we’re doing this, not for now. We’re doing this for the future, and it is a noble mission.”
Pentagon officials have not yet released detailed operational updates, but defence sources confirmed that air and naval assets are involved. Regional governments are closely monitoring developments, while global markets reacted cautiously to the announcement.
Analysts say major combat operations in Iran represent one of the most significant US military actions in the region in recent years. Diplomatic channels remain active, though prospects for immediate de escalation appear limited as tensions between Washington and Tehran intensify.
