ABU DHABI: The UAE has officially concluded its nationwide initiative to register unlicensed weapons, offering citizens a chance to legalise firearms without facing legal action.
Launched under the slogan “Your Home is Safe, Registration is Assurance”, the campaign ran for three months and saw high public participation. The drive aimed to reduce the risk of illegal firearms by helping citizens regularise their ownership in line with national laws.
The initiative, led by the Supreme Council for National Security’s Weapons and Hazardous Substances Office in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, offered amnesty and free registration to those who came forward during the window.
Mohamed Suhail Al Neyadi, Director-General of the Weapons and Hazardous Substances Office, confirmed that the campaign achieved its key goals — boosting public awareness about the dangers of illegal weapons, improving community safety, and encouraging legal compliance. Citizens could either register their firearms, deactivate them for cultural value, or surrender them voluntarily.
He noted the high level of engagement from the public, which highlighted the community’s trust and responsibility in upholding national safety.
Brigadier Abdulrahman Ali Al Mansouri from the Ministry of Interior praised the smooth cooperation between the two entities. He credited their success to smart platforms, a dedicated toll-free number (800233), and round-the-clock support.
The initiative also maintained a dedicated social media presence at @aldaraman.ae, where citizens could access guides, terms, and step-by-step registration instructions through the MOI UAE app and the website www.moi.gov.ae.
This campaign further strengthens the UAE’s efforts to maintain its reputation as one of the safest countries in the world.
