DUBAI: Put the drone down. The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has announced the immediate suspension of all recreational and sports aviation permits across the country, and the warning could not be clearer: fly without approval and face the legal consequences.

The suspension covers a broad range of activities including drones, gliders, and light sports aircraft, and comes as part of wider measures to ensure public safety during a period of heightened regional tension. With UAE air defence systems actively monitoring and responding to threats across the country’s airspace, the presence of unauthorised aircraft of any kind creates serious risks that authorities are not willing to tolerate.
