Sharjah approves electronic toll gates under the “Masaar” system, aiming to ease traffic and boost safety across the emirate.
SHARJAH: Sharjah is rolling out a major upgrade to its transport infrastructure with the approval of electronic toll gates designed to ease congestion and enhance road safety. The move forms part of the emirate’s broader efforts to digitise public services and streamline traffic flow.
The decision came during a recent Sharjah Executive Council meeting, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi. The Council approved the conversion of all truck toll gates into automated systems, branded “Masaar”.
The new system is intended to regulate truck movements more efficiently, improve crossing procedures, and help reduce delays on key routes. Officials say the change will not only make commuting easier but also strengthen Sharjah’s road safety framework and digital service capabilities.
The “Masaar” gates reflect a growing shift toward smart mobility in the UAE, aligning with national goals for safer, more connected cities. The project also supports sustainable transport planning by reducing bottlenecks, especially during peak travel times.
In the same meeting, the Council approved a draft law on the organisation of Sharjah’s Correctional and Punitive Institution. The draft aims to uphold inmates’ dignity, enhance rehabilitation programmes, and maintain public safety.
Sharjah continues to lead in digital transformation across key sectors, with traffic infrastructure now added to a growing list of smart service upgrades. The Masaar toll system is expected to significantly improve daily logistics and long-haul travel within the emirate.
