SHARJAH: In a significant step towards inmate rehabilitation, Sharjah Police has inaugurated four modern libraries at the Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre. The initiative, launched in partnership with Knowledge Without Borders, aims to promote reading and education among inmates, fostering intellectual growth and personal development.
The opening ceremony, led by Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, was attended by key figures, including Mohammed Khalaf of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority and Rashid Al Kous of the Emirates Publishers Association.
A step towards reform and reintegration
The newly established libraries offer diverse literary collections, including bestsellers tailored to inmates’ interests. Major General bin Amer also inspected the women’s section and Dar Al Aman Nursery, reinforcing the commitment to comprehensive rehabilitation.
“This initiative strengthens our dedication to fostering a culture of reading and equipping inmates with knowledge, skills, and psychological support for reintegration,” he stated.

Rehabilitation through knowledge
Colonel Abdullah Alai Al Naqbi, Director of the Correctional Centre, highlighted the libraries’ innovative design, which differs from traditional models. Developed based on specialised research, they create a welcoming and engaging reading space, encouraging inmates to embrace learning and self-improvement.
By integrating education with rehabilitation, Sharjah Police is paving the way for inmates to develop essential life skills, ensuring a smooth transition back into society.
