INTERPOL’s current President is Major General Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, of the UAE.

Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi is not just any police officer; he’s the 30th president of Interpol and a Major General in the UAE’s interior ministry. He was elected during the 89th General Assembly in Istanbul in November 2021 and will hold the presidency until 2025.

Al-Raisi’s career in law enforcement began in 1980 when he joined the Abu Dhabi police, starting out in the burglar alarm branch. He steadily climbed the ranks and became the General Director of Central Operations in 2005. He has a strong educational background, holding a BSc in computer science from Otterbein University, a diploma in police management from the University of Cambridge, an MBA from Coventry University, and even a doctorate from London Metropolitan University!

In 2009, he co-authored Social & Security Impact of the Internet, a book published by the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research, showcasing his interest in how the internet influences security.

In 2022, Al-Raisi was the UAE’s official candidate to succeed Kim Jong Yang as Interpol president. The election took place on November 25 in Istanbul, where he faced Šárka Havránková, a vice president of Interpol. After three rounds of voting, Al-Raisi emerged victorious, securing around 69% of the votes and making history as the first president from the Middle East. His leadership is expected to have a significant impact on international policing and security in the years to come.
