Etihad Rail unveils the UAE’s first fully integrated national passenger rail system connecting 11 cities, set to launch in 2026.

ABU DHABI: Etihad Rail has revealed full details of the UAE’s first fully integrated national passenger rail network, marking a major milestone in the nation’s transport and infrastructure development ahead of its 2026 launch. The project will connect 11 cities and regions through strategically located stations, strengthening connectivity and providing safe and reliable mobility services for citizens, residents and visitors.

Earlier in 2025, Etihad Rail announced the first four passenger stations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah. It has now confirmed the remaining planned stations in Al Sila’, Al Dhannah, Al Mirfa, Madinat Zayed, Mezaira’a, Al Faya and Al Dhaid, which will become operational in phases as the network is rolled out.

Azza AlSuwaidi, Deputy CEO of Etihad Rail Mobility, said the launch preparations reflect the UAE leadership’s vision to develop an integrated transport ecosystem supporting the country’s economic and social framework. “The passenger rail network will serve as a cornerstone of the UAE’s national transport ecosystem, supporting long‑term development and strengthening connectivity across its Emirates,” she said, highlighting collaboration among partners and global best practices.

The network builds on Etihad Rail’s proven success in operating the national freight rail service since 2023. AlSuwaidi emphasised that the trains will have a distinct Emirati identity, supporting national cohesion while positioning the UAE as a regional standard for sustainable, people‑centred mobility that enhances community wellbeing and improves quality of life.

Designed for modern travel, the trains will offer safe and ergonomic seating, contemporary interiors, full Wi‑Fi coverage and individual power outlets at every seat. Services will run on a precise and regular schedule, providing a reliable alternative to road travel while helping reduce city‑to‑city congestion.

Eng. Mohammed Alshehii, Chief Projects Officer at Etihad Rail, confirmed that the network will officially launch in 2026. In its first phase, the rail system will connect 11 key locations including Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi, Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, University City in Sharjah and the Al Hilal area in Fujairah. Ten of the thirteen trains in the fleet have already arrived, tested and certified to the highest international safety and quality standards. Each train can accommodate up to 400 passengers and will be operated with the latest systems to ensure reliability and security.

The services will be seamlessly integrated with the wider transport network, with stations connected to other modes of travel to support ease of movement across the UAE. Alshehii noted that the achievement is the result of three years of intensive planning, design and delivery, involving more than 7,000 experts and workers and over 24.5 million working hours.

Beyond enhanced mobility, the national passenger rail network is expected to boost domestic tourism, support sustainable transport objectives, help reduce emissions and strengthen social and economic ties between Emirates by making the UAE more connected and accessible.

Etihad Rail’s passenger stations will be located in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah, Al Sila’, Al Dhannah, Al Mirfa, Madinat Zayed, Mezaira’a, Al Faya and Al Dhaid as part of the phased rollout across the country.
