Dubai Customs has successfully stopped advanced smuggling techniques in 2022-2023, thanks to their dedication to training and using the latest technology. They detected a major smuggling attempt where more than 50 kilograms of crystal meth were hidden in 382 air cargo packages. The smugglers cleverly disguised the drugs among hygiene items, exercise equipment, coffee machines, and decorations.

Additionally, inspectors prevented the smuggling of 251 kilograms of marijuana hidden in 3,477 packages. These drugs were concealed in oxygen cylinders for diving and sound amplifiers.

Sultan Saif Al-Suwaidi, Director of Air Cargo Centres Management, highlighted the officers’ expertise and skills developed through specialized training courses. He mentioned that using advanced global support devices, inspectors handled 1,500 cases at air cargo centres in 2022 and 2023, dealing with both drug-related incidents and customs issues. These efforts, especially in high-traffic cargo centres, demonstrate their commitment to uncovering attempts to smuggle prohibited substances and goods.

In September 2023, Dubai authorities had thwarted a major drug-smuggling operation attempting to bring restricted narcotics into the country. Dubai Customs’ Intelligence Department achieved the significant milestone by intercepting a smuggling attempt via air cargo. They successfully prevented the trafficking of 200,000 restricted narcotics and pills valued at approximately AED6.2m ($1.7m)

This mission is important because it’s a big part of their plan to keep the community safe from security risks. By doing this, they play a major role in keeping the UAE known as a safe and stable place, which is crucial for attracting investments.
