Dubai Municipality unveils AI drone system to monitor green spaces and support predictive urban sustainability and municipal services.
DUBAI: Dubai Municipality has launched the “Smart Municipality Eye” — a pioneering AI-powered drone initiative designed to transform the way Dubai manages its urban environment and green infrastructure. The smart system uses unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with advanced sensors and AI algorithms to monitor 52 million square metres of green space in real time.
Launched during Urban Future Week at the Museum of the Future, the initiative supports Dubai’s strategy for proactive, sustainable urban development. The drones assess vegetation health, detect irrigation and pest issues, and forecast maintenance needs using predictive analytics — a move aimed at maximising resource efficiency and long-term sustainability.
In parallel, Dubai Municipality signed an MoU with Eanan Al Samma for Remote-Controlled Aircraft Manufacturing. The partnership will focus on enhancing municipal operations through drone innovation and the integration of AI into field and inspection services. Both entities will collaborate on developing smart systems to streamline service delivery, reduce operational costs, and raise urban resilience.
Director-General Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita described the initiative as “not just about planting trees, but preserving Dubai’s environmental and visual identity with precision.” He emphasised that the Smart Municipality Eye reflects the city’s evolving approach to intelligent governance and future-ready sustainability models.
Rashid Hamdan bin Khadim Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Eanan Al Samma, noted the strategic value of drone technology in boosting quality of life and advancing Dubai’s position as a smart city leader.
The partnership marks a key milestone in deploying next-generation drone technology for real-time data capture and analysis, offering Dubai a scalable model for proactive urban management and green infrastructure preservation.
