DEWA is urging residents to follow DEWA holiday tips before travelling this summer to save water, reduce electricity use and avoid unexpected utility bills.

DUBAI: Heading out of town this summer? Before locking the door, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) says there are a few simple things you should do to protect your home and avoid costly surprises. As part of its summer awareness campaign, DEWA has released a list of DEWA holiday tips to help residents save water, reduce electricity consumption and spot unusual utility usage while they’re away.

One of the most important recommendations is to turn off the main water supply before leaving home. This can help prevent leaks, reduce water wastage and avoid damage if a pipe or fitting fails while the property is empty.

DEWA also encourages customers to activate its Away Mode through the smart app or website. The feature allows residents to monitor electricity and water use remotely, receive daily or weekly consumption reports and get alerts if unusual usage is detected, making it easier to act quickly even when travelling abroad.

Before leaving, residents should also check water tanks, taps, heaters and internal plumbing for leaks. Any maintenance work should be completed in advance, while electrical appliances should be unplugged instead of being left on standby to reduce unnecessary energy consumption.

Another tip is to clean air-conditioning filters and make sure all doors and windows are properly closed before setting off. This helps improve cooling efficiency and reduces electricity use when the home is unoccupied.

DEWA also recommends using its Smart Living platform to keep track of electricity and water bills, monitor daily and monthly consumption and better understand usage patterns. Smart meter technology can even send instant notifications if unusually high water consumption is detected, helping residents respond before a small leak becomes a costly problem.

With thousands of families travelling during the summer break, following these DEWA holiday tips can help protect your home, lower utility bills and give you greater peace of mind while you’re away.

Tips to keep your home safe:

  • Turn off the main water supply to help prevent leaks while you’re away.
