Many children seized the chance to express their emotions through writing about the rain.

UAE: The recent rain and flood is not only a new phenomenon for the but it was a unique experience for the kids, who were born and brought up in UAE. For these UAE kids, it was a new experience to encounter the heavy rain and storm at the scale of devastation. Thanks to the quick response of authorities, schools switched to online classes, easing parents’ worries.

The Brew News reached out to kids of various ages to learn about their experiences with the heavy rain and its impact in the last 6 days. Many expressed themselves through creative mediums like poetry and essays, providing insight into their emotions and reflections. This spontaneous outpouring of artistic expression highlights the profound impact of the recent weather phenomenon on the UAE’s youth.

Zaydan Nusrat, a Student in Grade 4 expressed his feelings by writing an essay on his experience, mentioning that it was a raintastic day.

Md. Zaid Ahmed, a fifth-grade student, likened this rain to Kolkata’s and reminisced about the four days of online classes, reminiscent of COVID-era school days.

I had secretly wished that it rained in Dubai similar to Kolkata which I had experienced last year during my vacation. But this was too much! The roads were flooded, the internet was affected and there was water everywhere. I liked the weather during the rain as it was not sunny or hot. Though we were stuck at home, however, I was happy to be at home for few days and attend classes online just like lockdown days. But I felt sad when I saw people’s cars stuck on the water-logged street from my balcony.

During the rain, Grade 12 student Hibah Khalid expressed mixed emotions, describing it as both scary and a welcome relief from the summer heat.

As any other resident of UAE, the heavy rainfall in the last couple of days perplexed me as we had never seen such a downpour in Dubai. Very frankly, I had mixed feelings during the rain. Though it was a bit scary but also the dark clouds and the gushing winds seemed to be a good reprieve from the summer heat. The heavier the storm got the more my window looked like a washing machine and in no time there was water leaking through our windows. Though we enjoyed it while it rained, the aftermath was heavier for the next few days. We couldn’t go out for groceries, people were working from home and the house deliveries stopped too! It was as though we were experiencing the lockdowns all over again. Fortunately, it is UAE and life is back to normal in no time.

Grade 7 students Ekayan Chowdhury expressed his feelings for the public loss and efferts of government authorities.

It was the heaviest rainfall the country received in the last 75 years. I feel sad about the affected people, who were forced to abandon their cars and homes. Many people and businesses, shops are in trouble, as after rain, we can see the devastation of flood water. I am happy that government establishments working day and night to clear the situation. I salute all workers and volunteers, who are putting in all the efforts to make our life normal.

Garde 3 student Syed Hadi was shocked to experinece the heavy rain.

I was surprised to see so much water in the street after the heavy rainfall in Sharjah. I felt i am living near the river. It was a fun experience with no school.
