Gurugram biker crash footage has led police to add an attempted-murder charge after a woman motorcyclist was allegedly chased and struck by a car.
GURUGRAM: A viral video showing a woman motorcyclist being struck by a car on a busy road near New Delhi has escalated into an attempted-murder case, with police arresting the driver and another man after reviewing footage of the incident.
The Gurugram biker crash occurred on September 13 on Golf Course Road and involved 27-year-old motorcyclist Shivani Chauhan, who is known online as Sia. Footage recorded from motorcycles at the scene subsequently spread widely across social media.
What the viral video appears to show
Footage from the incident appears to show a white car moving behind a group of motorcyclists before making contact with Chauhan’s motorcycle.
The collision sent her crashing onto the road. She escaped without life-threatening injuries.
Chauhan has alleged that the occupants of the vehicle had been following her and that the collision was deliberate. She has also disputed claims from the accused’s side that the incident resulted from mutual negligence or panic.

Police add attempted-murder charge
Police initially registered a case under provisions covering rash driving and acts endangering life or personal safety.
Investigators later added Section 109 of India’s Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, covering attempt to murder, after examining CCTV and recordings captured by the motorcyclists.
Gurugram Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Kumar said investigators believed footage showed the car chasing Chauhan before deliberately hitting her motorcycle. Police said the suspected intention behind the incident, rather than the severity of her injuries, influenced the decision to invoke the more serious charge.

Driver arrested in Rajasthan
Police identified the driver as 33-year-old Kalyan Bainsla, a gym owner and former kabaddi player.
Bainsla was arrested in Rajasthan on September 15 along with his cousin, identified by police as Lavnish. Police allege the pair had left the area following the incident.
The Gurugram biker crash investigation has also resulted in additional allegations involving stalking and criminal conspiracy. The case remains under investigation, and the charges have not been proven in court.
Accused disputes deliberate collision claim
Bainsla has disputed the allegation that he intentionally struck Chauhan.
He previously claimed the motorcyclist had been changing speed and riding too close to the vehicle. He also said he left the scene because he feared being attacked by a crowd. Chauhan has rejected his account.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and the events leading up to it.

The viral footage has renewed attention on road safety and harassment involving women motorists in India, while the investigation could test how video evidence is used when determining intent in serious road incidents.
