Abu Dhabi:  The Minnesota Timberwolves emerged victorious against fellow NBA side the Dallas Mavericks with a score of 111-99 in the NBA‘s first preseason game of the year, held at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

In the showpiece event at the NBA’s visit to the UAE, the Timberwolves beat the Mavericks in a thrilling 111-99 encounter, with the sides yet to play their second and final friendly at the Etihad Arena.

In the game, big names such as Luka Doncic of the Mavericks showcased an impressive performance, accumulating 25 points in just 17 first-half minutes. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves’ Luka Garza and Shake Milton combined for 24 points, and their team maintained the lead throughout the match.

During the second half of the game, most star players from both teams did not participate. It’s worth mentioning that Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards did not play at all due to an ankle injury.

The match marked the first of two times the teams will face off in Abu Dhabi before they return to the US to kick off the official season, with the next game scheduled for Saturday at 23:00 GTS.

The games represent just one facet of the NBA’s visit to the UAE. Fans can also immerse themselves in the NBA district, interact with NBA legends like Gary Payton and Tim Hardaway Sr, and have the opportunity to take photos with the Larry O’Brien Trophy. These initiatives aim to enhance the popularity of sports in the local community. The visit is made possible through an official partnership between the NBA and the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT).
