Generations of fans have adored the iconic doll, as evidenced by the sea of pink that flooded theaters last month when Margot Robbie’s “Barbie” debuted on screen.

But there was a woman who had loved Barbie — in all her guises — since 1966, long before the movie even came out.

Bettina Dorfmann, 62, is regarded as the largest superfan of Barbie in the entire globe thanks to her astounding collection of 18,500 of the iconic dolls.

She has held the title of holding “the largest collection of Barbie dolls” in the Guinness World Records books since 2005, when her collection was only 2,500 dolls strong.

Her collection reached 15,000 by 2011; today, it stands at 18,500.

“I love Barbie dolls because I played with them in my childhood, and it was a very good time for me,” she said in an interview with Guinness World Records.

When Dorfmann was five years old in 1966, she received her very first Barbie. She then began assembling her collection in 1993. American toymaker Mattel, Inc. introduced Barbie for the first time in 1959, and the doll immediately gained popularity all over the world.

One of the original 1959 Barbie dolls is among the rarest dolls that Dorfmann owns. She began taking part in shows to display her outstanding collection in an effort to share her happiness with others.

Every single doll was cared for by her, and even if their arms or legs broke, she wouldn’t just toss them away. Instead, she would repair them and, if necessary, purchase replacement parts.

As she eventually met other Barbie enthusiasts, she began assisting others in fixing damaged dolls.

According to GWR, she now makes “a living off exhibiting her dolls and writing books about Barbie, but also has a special ‘doll hospital’ where she repairs dolls for others.”

Dorfmann is still stocking up on Barbies for her collection today. In fact, she has already ordered the Margot Robbie version that was released alongside the film.

“Barbie is a mirror for our times. Through her, we can see how the world has changed — including women’s careers from the 50s to today,” she said.
