Dubai is a city known for its luxury and sprawling skyscrapers today, but it was once a small fishing village in the desert. Fishing is a huge part of UAE historically and the tradition is still kept alive today through various designated regions for fishing.
DUBAI CREEK
This is one of the oldest and most popular fishing spots in the country. This spot is ideal for both beginners and veterans as its waters are rich with different types of fish. You can expect to find a variety of fishes such as barracuda, bream, hammour, kingfish and sherri. The ideal time to fish in Dubai Creek is in the morning or late afternoon.
JUMEIRAH FISHING HARBOUR
There are many areas around Jumeirah Beach like the Jumeirah Fish Harbour that are great for shore fishing. It has a long stretch of sandy beach that is good for casting the fishing line. One can expect to catch species like kingfish, queenfish and hammour. This is a great spot for families and beginners exploring fishing in Dubai.
DUBAI MARINA
If your area of interest is kayak fishing, then Dubai Marina is the perfect place to go to. The marina’s deep waters attract a lot of large fish and is a great place for experienced anglers. The best time to go fishing in the area is typically in the morning and late afternoon. However, it is important to note that for recreational fishing in marinas, one requires a license for the Dubai Municipality.
AL MAKTOUM BRIDGE
This is one of Dubai’s designated free fishing spots. It is also a spot that is easily accessible by metro, taxi and bus as it is centrally located. One can expect to catch smaller species of fish such as catfish and carp. Early mornings and evenings are the best times to catch fish in the area.
THE PALM JUMEIRAH
The Palm Jumeirah offers a unique fishing experience with opportunities for both shore fishing as well as boat fishing. The man-made island’s calm waters and stunning landscape makes for a nice fishing experience. One can expect to catch fishes like snapper,grouper and trevally. The ideal time for fishing is at night when there are cooler temperatures.
AL MAMZAR CREEK
Al Mamzar Creek is yet another designated permitted area for fishing listed by the Dubai Municipality, if you have a recreational fishing license for the same. It is one of the well-maintained fishing spots in Al Mamzar Beach Park. You can expect to catch fish species such as snapper, grouper and bream. Ideally, it is better to go fishing in the morning and evening.
