LOS ANGELES: Emmy Awards 2026 arrives at the Peacock Theater on September 14 with The Pitt, Hacks, Widow’s Bay and Pluribus among the television shows competing for the night’s biggest prizes.
Medical drama The Pitt enters the ceremony with 25 nominations, the highest total of any programme this year. The show is also looking to retain its outstanding drama series title, while star Noah Wyle is again a leading contender in the acting categories.
Why is The Pitt a major favourite?
The Pitt has emerged as a major awards force after combining critical acclaim with a high-pressure hospital setting and an ensemble cast.
It faces strong competition for outstanding drama series from programmes including Pluribus, The Diplomat, The Gilded Age, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Paradise, Slow Horses and Your Friends & Neighbors.
Rhea Seehorn is also attracting attention for Pluribus, particularly in the lead drama actress race, adding another closely watched contest to the ceremony.

Can Hacks dominate the comedy categories?
Hacks enters its final Emmy run with 24 nominations, setting a record for the most nominations received by a comedy in a single year.
Jean Smart remains one of its biggest strengths. Another victory would continue her remarkable awards run for the series, but Hacks faces serious competition from Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay.
Widow’s Bay has already made an impact, collecting eight awards during the earlier Emmy ceremonies. Matthew Rhys and Kate O’Flynn are also among its prominent acting contenders.
That makes the comedy race potentially less predictable despite the historic nomination haul for Hacks.
