Dubai: In the era of films like Animal, films like Kadak Singh starrer Pankaj Tripathi, will have to be reviewed on two scales. Firstly, Kadak Singh is on the scale of a suspense thriller, where despite having an artist like Pankaj Tripathi, the film does not reach as far as it could have taken. This movie creates suspense in the Kolkata environment but somehow it does not do justice to Pankaj Tripathi, around whom the character of Kadak Singh is built. The story built around a financial crime like chit fund was taken forward with many angles like departmental politics, the crime of influential people, problems of the common man after losing money, suicide, extramarital affair, suicide, encounter etc. But somewhere in the middle, the story gets lost like the memory of Kadak Singh.

In Kadak Singh, which is streaming on Zee5 Global now, Pankaj Tripathi stars in the film as AK Srivastava, a financial investigator attached to a national agency. Srivastava is hospitalized after attempting suicide inside his own office. He survives, but he dies. His daughter, played by Sanjana Sanghi, and a junior disciple, played by Paresh Pahuja, support him and, in the process, uncover a world of hurt, lies, and dishonesty. Not a terrible base to start with. Srivastava’s family members call him Kadak Singh for his discipline and toughness, but none of his qualities are visible in the film, it is just that Kadak Singh is very serious about his work and considers his medal as the biggest achievement of his life. Believes. The first half of the film is strangely uninspired. The film has a tight story in the second half, but even during the revelation of the case, the film has not been able to do much. As the story progresses, the audience gets an idea of who is the mastermind of the embezzlement and who might be involved in Kadak Singh’s department. Overall, none of the actors did any great acting which could have been easily done by the experienced actors of the film.

Secondly, the film can be seen from a daughter’s perspective where Kadak Singh’s daughter Sanjana Sanghi holds her own throughout the film. The way Sanjana takes the story forward even after Kadak Singh does not accept her as a daughter and the poignant aspect of the father-daughter relationship is visible on the screen, is Kamal’s credit. Sanjana’s role is not only that of Kadak Singh’s daughter, but her role as a mother to her brother and also bringing warmth in the relationship with Kadak Singh’s girlfriend is a sensitive aspect of the film. In the era of films like Animal, where people have considered the crude relationship of son and fathers’ relationships as a formula for success, this aspect of Kadak Singh is worthy of praise, Where Kadak Singh, with his lost memory, considers Sanjana as his daughter and says that now I form a new relationship with you as a daughter.

On top of that, there is his nurse (Parvathy Thiruvothu), a spectator of AK’s story, a character who has as much information as the audience does and serves as a sounding board for AK’s theories.
