FUJAIRAH: Driss El Hilali, President of the Arab Taekwondo Federation and Mediterranean Union of Taekwondo, has commended the UAE for its outstanding contributions to advancing the sport.

In an interview with WAM, El Hilali highlighted the UAE’s robust efforts, including comprehensive training programmes and its success in hosting global, Arab, and international taekwondo tournaments. He noted that these initiatives reflect the nation’s dedication to fostering the sport and elevating its global stature.

The upcoming Executive Office meeting of the Arab Taekwondo Federation, scheduled for February 8 in Fujairah, will address crucial agenda items. These include committee restructuring, planning annual activities, and celebrating the achievements of Arab champions at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The meeting coincides with the 5th Arab Taekwondo Championship, taking place from February 5 to 7 at Fujairah’s Zayed Sports Complex, further reinforcing the emirate’s pivotal role in promoting taekwondo.

UAE appreciated for promoting taekwondo through global initiatives

El Hilali emphasised that Fujairah has earned global acclaim as a hub for international taekwondo events. This recognition stems from the unwavering support and patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah and Honorary President of the UAE Taekwondo Federation.

He praised the Crown Prince’s leadership in positioning Fujairah as a leading destination for taekwondo, enabling the city to host premier tournaments and nurture regional and international talent.

These initiatives not only bolster the sport but also solidify the UAE’s reputation as a centre for excellence in sports development and international collaboration.
