COLOMBO: Pakistan India T20 clash has been officially confirmed after the International Cricket Council announced Pakistan’s participation in all its scheduled matches at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, including the marquee encounter against India on 15 February in Colombo.
In a statement released on Monday, the ICC said discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board were held as part of broader engagement aimed at ensuring unity, cooperation and integrity in the game. The governing body said all members agreed to respect their commitments and take necessary steps to ensure the success of the ongoing tournament.
The confirmation follows earlier uncertainty after the Government of Pakistan had indicated that the national team’s participation could be limited to select matches. The ICC said the dialogue helped align all parties around shared responsibilities and the long-term interests of international cricket.
Ahead of the highly anticipated Pakistan India T20 clash, Pakistan will play their second group match against the United States on 10 February, also in Colombo. The team began its campaign with a three-wicket victory over the Netherlands, providing early momentum in the tournament.
The announcement came after meetings between the ICC, the PCB and the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Following discussions, the ICC confirmed that Bangladesh will not face penalties for its absence from the tournament. The council also said Bangladesh will be given the opportunity to host an ICC event before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2031, subject to standard hosting requirements.
The ICC reiterated its commitment to supporting cricket development in Bangladesh, describing it as one of the sport’s most vibrant markets with a fan base exceeding 200 million.
The Pakistan India T20 clash is expected to be one of the most watched matches of the tournament, drawing global attention and significant fan interest. With Pakistan cleared to compete fully, the focus now shifts to on-field performance as the tournament gathers pace in Sri Lanka.
