Elon Musk says SpaceXAI will be renamed SpaceXSI, replacing “AI” with “SI” for “super intelligence.”

CALIFORNIA: Elon Musk has confirmed plans to rename SpaceX’s artificial intelligence division from SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI, adopting the term “super intelligence” instead of “artificial intelligence.”

Musk confirmed the change on X after a user asked whether the division would adopt the new name. He replied that the company would make the change, but did not provide a timeline for when the rebrand would formally take effect.

Why SpaceX is changing the name

The move follows US President Donald Trump’s recent push to use the term “super intelligence” in place of “artificial intelligence.”

Trump said during a speech at the UN General Assembly that US government documents should adopt the new terminology, arguing that “super intelligence” is a more accurate description of the technology.

Musk publicly backed the shift and has now indicated that SpaceX’s AI division will follow the same naming convention.

Second major rebrand in months

The planned change comes shortly after Musk’s AI operations were integrated more closely with SpaceX earlier in 2026.

The division had already been operating under the SpaceXAI name following the integration of Musk’s artificial intelligence business with SpaceX. The latest proposed rebrand would therefore mark another rapid identity change for the unit.

At the time of reporting, the official SpaceXAI account on X had not yet been renamed, and SpaceX had not released further details about branding, structure or whether the name change would affect the division’s operations.

What does ‘SI’ mean?

“SI” stands for super intelligence, a term generally associated with AI systems capable of performing intellectual tasks at or beyond human levels across a broad range of areas.

Musk has discussed the concept of superintelligence for years, including its potential benefits and risks.

For now, however, the SpaceXSI change appears to be primarily a branding and terminology shift, with no operational changes announced.

Impact to expect

The move could accelerate the use of “super intelligence” as an alternative AI industry term, particularly among companies and organisations aligned with the new US terminology. Whether other major technology firms follow with similar branding changes remains to be seen.
