BEIJING: China’s private rocket company Galactic Energy successfully launched eight satellites into sun-synchronous orbits from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in Gansu Province, Northwest China, on Monday.

Six of these satellites, part of the Yunyao constellation (No. 55 to No. 60), are designed to collect crucial atmospheric data. These satellites monitor temperature, humidity, pressure, and ionospheric electron density. The data they gather is vital for meteorological observations and supports weather forecasting, climate monitoring, and space weather early-warning systems.

The remaining two satellites, No. 06 and No. 07, belong to AIRSAT Technology Group and are equipped with multispectral camera payloads for high-quality remote sensing imagery. Their addition to the AIRSAT constellation will significantly enhance remote sensing capabilities. This includes improving data diversity and offering more precise services for sectors such as agriculture, forestry, resource management, environmental protection, and disaster prevention.

Galactic Energy’s achievement marks a significant milestone in China’s growing commercial space industry. With 17 successful commercial launch missions under its belt, the company has now deployed 71 satellites into their intended orbits. This highlights the firm’s growing expertise in satellite deployment and its potential to contribute to global space research and applications.

As commercial space companies continue to expand, the contributions of firms like Galactic Energy will play a crucial role in advancing technology and enabling more accurate, timely data for a range of industries.
