At a theme park in the UK on Friday afternoon, a rollercoaster ride malfunctioned, leaving a group of thrill seekers suspended in the air.

The ride, called ‘The Rage’, at Adventure Island in Essex was made to take people up a vertical climb before plunging them down from a height of 72-foot and whirling through the loops.

On Friday, according to media accounts, the carriage was ascending when it was suddenly caught on the vertical track, leaving passengers hanging at a 90-degree angle for “at least half an hour”.

The reports also stated that rescuers could be seen rushing to The Rage to aid the passengers. According to onlookers, the eight passengers on board had to be harnessed and helped off through an emergency escape platform.

Despite the frightening scene, theme park guests reported that it was handled peacefully and that the reaction was swift.

One of the riders was an eight-year-old girl, who was reportedly “unfazed” by the incident.
