This day in history we feature, vulcanized rubber. Charles Goodyear was an American self-taught chemist who patented vulcanized rubber on this day in 1844.
Trivia – Vulcanized Rubber
Goodyear invented vulcanized rubber when he accidentally dropped some India rubber mixed with sulfur on a hot stove and so discovered vulcanization.
His discovery initiated decades of successful rubber manufacturing, as it was adapted to multiple applications, including footwear and tires. The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company was named after him.
