FUJAIRAH: The launch of the Etihad Rail passenger service marks a major milestone in the UAE’s transport network, with the new connection expected to strengthen domestic tourism, improve mobility between the emirates and create fresh opportunities for destinations such as Fujairah.
The introductory passenger service links Fujairah with Abu Dhabi in just 105 minutes, with trains travelling at speeds of up to 200 km/h. Each train can carry up to 400 passengers, while the national railway network is expected to serve around 10 million passengers annually once it becomes fully operational.
Officials believe the project will make it easier for residents and visitors to explore the UAE’s natural landscapes, cultural attractions and heritage sites. Improved accessibility is also expected to increase hotel occupancy, support local businesses and encourage more short-break and weekend travel across the country.
Saeed Abdullah Al Samahi, Director of the Fujairah Department of Tourism and Antiquities, described the opening of the emirate’s railway station as a strategic development that enhances Fujairah’s tourism appeal while supporting economic growth. He said the new rail link offers visitors a safe and comfortable travel option and reinforces the emirate’s position as a preferred destination for leisure and domestic tourism.
The Etihad Rail passenger service offers Comfort and First Class travel, with reserved seating, complimentary Wi-Fi, charging ports, luggage storage and facilities designed for People of Determination. The service aims to provide a modern travel experience while supporting the UAE’s commitment to sustainable mobility.
The launch was warmly welcomed by residents, who gathered at Fujairah Railway Station to witness the first passenger departure. Many described it as a proud moment that will strengthen links between the emirates and make travel more convenient.
