A BYD vehicle shipment carrying 6,068 new energy vehicles is heading from China to Khorfakkan Port on a newly launched direct shipping route.
SHARJAH: More than 6,000 new BYD vehicles are on their way from China to the UAE in a single massive shipment.
Khorfakkan Port in Sharjah is preparing to receive a large roll-on/roll-off, or RoRo, vessel carrying 6,068 new energy vehicles made by Chinese automaker BYD.
The BYD vehicle shipment departed from Xiaomo International Logistics Port in Shenzhen, China.
But the size of the shipment is only part of the story.
The journey also marks the launch of a new direct maritime shipping route between Shenzhen and Khorfakkan, creating a faster connection for moving vehicles and other large cargo between China and the UAE.

The new route is expected to cut shipping time by around three to five days.
That could make a big difference for companies moving large numbers of vehicles and heavy equipment between the two countries.
The shipment has already made history before reaching the UAE.
According to reports, the 6,068 vehicles represent the largest single vehicle shipment ever handled by Xiaomo International Logistics Port.
Khorfakkan Port is operated by the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority and sits on the UAE’s east coast.
Its location gives shipping companies direct access to the Arabian Sea and major international trade routes, making it an important gateway for goods moving between Asia, the UAE and other Middle Eastern markets.

The arrival also comes as Chinese car brands continue to build their presence across the UAE.
New energy vehicles, including fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars, have become an increasingly visible part of the country’s car market.
For BYD, one of China’s biggest new energy vehicle manufacturers, the shipment is another sign of the growing importance of the UAE and wider Middle East.
The new route could also help reduce possible shipping disruptions by providing a more direct connection for vehicles and large equipment coming from China.
