ABU DHABI: Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP), has expressed his appreciation following the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the resolution establishing 28th January as the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence. Al Jarwan commended the UN’s move, describing the day as a crucial step in fostering stronger global unity and peace.
Al Jarwan explained that this resolution highlights the urgent need for better understanding and tolerance among nations, especially as the world faces pressing challenges. He stressed that peaceful coexistence is essential for global stability and progress, underlining the importance of education, dialogue, and community engagement in building bridges of cooperation.
He further acknowledged the commitment of the international community to intercultural, interfaith, and inter-civilisational dialogue, which are vital for nurturing societies that celebrate diversity and work towards peace. The International Day of Peaceful Coexistence, he stated, is an opportunity for nations to come together and reinforce the values of tolerance, mutual respect, and harmony.
Al Jarwan highlighted the necessity of observing this day worldwide, through events and awareness campaigns that promote peace and tolerance. He also pointed out that this day marks an important shift toward greater international collaboration, aimed at combating violence, discrimination, and promoting human rights across the globe.
