Abu Dhabi: The Muslim Council of Elders, led by His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, highlighted the importance of protecting children’s rights. They stated that ensuring children’s well-being and rights is not just a religious and ethical duty but also a social responsibility that requires serious commitment from individuals, institutions, and governments.

In Islam, children are seen as crucial for building the future of societies. Islam advocates for their proper upbringing, protection, and respect for their rights, such as the right to life, healthcare, and education.

The council, marking the World Day Against Child Labour, strongly condemned exploiting children by making them work in jobs unsuitable for their age. This not only violates their childhood but also exposes them to health and psychological risks, jeopardizing their future. They called for intensified efforts to combat child labor through effective policies and measures that ensure children receive the care they need to grow and develop with dignity.

Referring to the Document on Human Fraternity signed by Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb and Pope Francis in Abu Dhabi in 2019, the council emphasized that providing for children’s fundamental rights, including family upbringing, nutrition, education, and care, is a moral obligation for both families and societies. Every child deserves these rights, and they must be protected everywhere.

Furthermore, the council denounced any actions that undermine children’s dignity or violate their rights. They stressed the importance of addressing the risks and violations children face, reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding children’s well-being and rights in line with religious teachings and ethical principles.
