Sharjah is soon to open gates to its ambitious safari project in the city of Al Dhaid, encapsulating facilities and designs that appeal to the masses while also keeping the thriving African wildlife in mind.

The Sharjah Safari project, part of Al Bardi Reserve, was visited Wednesday by ruler H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi — also a member of the Supreme Council — where he toured the grounds to map out its progress.

The facilities number cages for birds and a section for giraffes, 15 of which were released to adapt to the safari. A section for crocodiles includes a group of lakes offering splendid sights to visitors looking to observe the amphibians. In addition to the lions section — currently boasting 90% completion — the ground also host an elephant section, as well as a rhinoceros section.

The safari is set to be home to a distinct group of animals from various African environments, and offer scenic views to tourists from natural lakes to lush picnic areas. Cafes are also spread out around the live venue set to display animal shows.

It is worth noting that Sharjah Safari is the largest safari project in the world outside of Africa, with an area of 14 square kilometers and will contain nearly 50 thousand animals, and thus will be the most important environmental tourism destination in the region.
