GENEVA: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has issued a stark warning on the dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza, describing the situation as “beyond catastrophic.” The organisation is urging all parties involved to ensure the safety and dignity of civilians, especially the wounded and sick.

In a statement released on Thursday, the ICRC highlighted the severe toll that over 600 days of conflict has taken on the people of Gaza. The ongoing hostilities, combined with extreme limitations on the delivery and distribution of humanitarian aid, have drastically worsened daily life in the region.

“Every day, people struggle to survive, to feed their families, and to find some form of safety and security,” said the ICRC, calling for immediate, unobstructed humanitarian access.

The organisation stressed that the protection of civilians is a fundamental requirement under international humanitarian law. The statement serves as a reminder of the critical need for sustained international support and diplomacy to ease the suffering of those affected by conflict.

Despite multiple calls for ceasefires and aid corridors, restrictions remain, leading to shortages of food, water, medical supplies, and electricity. The ICRC continues to deliver life-saving assistance wherever possible, but says that without guaranteed security and access, their operations face immense challenges.

The international community has been urged to intervene constructively, with the ICRC reiterating its neutral and impartial role in providing humanitarian aid in conflict zones.
