GAZA: The United Nations has called for the urgent and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza, as the humanitarian situation worsens and civilians continue to suffer while seeking food and assistance.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the deaths and injuries of Palestinians attempting to access aid, calling the events “utterly unacceptable.” In a statement delivered through his spokesperson, Guterres warned that many civilians in Gaza are risking — and losing — their lives just to obtain basic food.
He reaffirmed the right of Palestinians to adequate food and protection from hunger, demanding an immediate and independent investigation into the deadly incidents, with accountability for those responsible.
The Secretary-General stressed that Gaza’s population faces vast, unmet humanitarian needs and reminded all parties that under international humanitarian law, Israel is obligated to allow and facilitate aid access for civilians in need.
Reiterating the urgency of the Gaza aid crisis, Guterres called for the immediate and unimpeded re-entry of large-scale humanitarian relief. He also underscored the need for UN personnel to operate safely and effectively, in line with humanitarian principles.
In addition to pushing for aid access, Guterres renewed his call for the release of all hostages and demanded an immediate, lasting, and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza.
The statement reflects growing international concern about the deepening Gaza aid crisis and the risks faced by ordinary people caught in the conflict.
