UAE’s HeroGo launches festive box to reduce food waste

Dubai: In a bid to reduce waste during one of the most indulgent times of the year, HeroGo has announced the launch of its ‘Festive Box’ featuring all the vegetables you need for the perfect Christmas spread – while rescuing ‘ugly’ produce.

In the UAE alone, 1 million tonnes of perfectly good food is wasted every year, often because of the ‘ugly problem’ – this bit of veg is ‘too big, one is ‘too small, and one has a ‘funny shape’. Other reasons for unnecessary wastage is that food is too close to its sell-by date, it’s excess produce that’s not needed, the packaging is out of date, or other cosmetic reasons, like unusual colouring. When these groceries go in the bin, not only does it waste the food, but it also wastes the energy, water and resources that went into growing it.

This Winter, HeroGo is coming to the rescue with its solution to the fight against food waste. In the festive box, you’ll find every ingredient needed for the perfect festive spread including potatoes, carrots, parsnips, onions, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, thyme, garlic, rosemary and parsley. Extras on offer include sweet potatoes, lemons, oranges and green beans. Festive boxes are available to pre-order online at rescuing ‘ugly’ produce from December 11 with deliveries between December 17 and 24.
