ABU DHABI, UAE – In the spirit of Ramadan, the rulers of the UAE have granted pardons to a number of prisoners as part of their annual humanitarian gesture. This act of clemency is a significant tradition, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to compassion, justice, and social harmony during the holy month.
The decision, announced by the UAE government, is aimed at giving prisoners a second chance to reintegrate into society and spend time with their families. President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 1,295 inmates from correctional institutions in the UAE. His Highness has also pledged to settle any financial obligations incurred as part of the inmates’ sentences in a gesture marking the Holy Month of Ramadan.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the release of 1,518 prisoners of different nationalities from Dubai’s correctional and punitive establishments, ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has granted the release of 707 inmates from the Sharjah Punitive and Correctional Institution.
H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, has ordered the release of 207 prisoners from punitive and correctional institutions in Ajman ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has ordered the release of 506 prisoners ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan, and pledged to settle their financial liabilities on the advent of Ramadan.
H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, has ordered the release of 111 prisoners from punitive and correctional institutions in Fujairah on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The annual pardon is also seen as a demonstration of the UAE’s commitment to its values of mercy and forgiveness.
