ABU DHABI: The UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science recently held a press conference at the National Centre of Meteorology in Abu Dhabi. The event showcased key achievements and future initiatives under the patronage of senior government officials.

The program is gearing up to celebrate its 10th anniversary in January 2025 and will host the seventh edition of the International Rain Enhancement Forum (IREF) from January 28 to 30, 2025. This forum will focus on innovative solutions to combat water scarcity and will also launch the sixth cycle of its global grant, offering up to $1.5 million per project for pioneering research in rain enhancement.

Achieving global water security, according to officials, requires innovation and advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI). The UAE’s commitment to water security aligns with global priorities, and through this program, it aims to invest in scientific collaboration and research to tackle climate challenges.

The upcoming IREF will serve as a significant global platform for discussing advancements in rain enhancement science, focusing on strategic pillars such as collaboration, capacity building, and AI. High-level sessions will address critical topics, including AI’s role in weather modification and advancements in technologies for cloud seeding.

The program’s sixth grant cycle will target five priority research areas: optimised seeding materials, cloud formation systems, autonomous aircraft, localized climate interventions, and advanced data models. This initiative reflects a dedication to fostering transformative solutions through advanced technologies.
