ABU DHABI: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has confirmed that over 10,000 fully equipped, air-conditioned rest stations will be provided for delivery workers across the UAE during the Midday Break period from 15 June to 15 September 2025. This expansion aims to protect delivery workers from extreme summer heat.
The Midday Break initiative, now a well-established annual measure, mandates that outdoor workers be given shaded and cooled rest between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm. For delivery workers, who often lack fixed work locations, the new rest stations offer a much-needed respite. These facilities come with cooling systems, hydration supplies, and first aid equipment, and can be located via interactive maps integrated into various delivery apps.
MoHRE coordinated with multiple government bodies and private sector partners to realise this initiative. Contributors include Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre, Emirates General Petroleum Corporation (Emarat), and Economic Development departments in all Emirates. Leading delivery platforms such as Talabat, Deliveroo, Noon, and Careem also played an essential role, alongside restaurants, malls, and cloud kitchens.
The Ministry praised the widespread cooperation and reiterated that delivery services, due to their fast-paced, mobile nature, require tailored solutions. The number of rest stations has nearly doubled since last year, reflecting both growing awareness and the UAE’s commitment to labour welfare.
Residents are urged to report any breaches of the Midday Break rules through the Ministry’s call centre, smart app, or website, helping to ensure compliance and safeguard workers’ wellbeing during the peak summer months.
