ABU DHABI: The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has launched a new AED100 banknote, featuring advanced security, sustainability, and cultural symbolism.

The new red-coloured polymer note, part of the CBUAE’s Third Issuance of the National Currency Project, maintains its traditional identity while incorporating modern security enhancements and a durable design.

The front of the note showcases the Um Al Quwain National Fort, a historic landmark symbolising the UAE’s rich heritage. The reverse side highlights the Port of Fujairah, a crucial hub for global maritime trade, along with Etihad Rail, the railway network uniting the seven emirates and extending to GCC countries.

CBUAE designed the banknote with enhanced security features and tactile Braille symbols to assist the visually impaired. The polymer material ensures twice the lifespan of traditional banknotes, making it a more sustainable and cost-effective option.

The new AED100 note enters circulation on March 24, 2025, alongside existing versions, ensuring a smooth transition. Banks and exchange houses are directed to update their cash-handling machines for seamless acceptance.
