ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) remains resolute in its fight against terrorism, advocating collective international action to combat this grave threat to global security.
The UAE has long championed the necessity of global unity against terrorism, actively participating in initiatives to restore peace and stability. It played a pivotal role in the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, including Operation Decisive Storm in 2015, thwarting Houthi militias’ attempts to dominate Yemen and disrupt international maritime routes. UAE Armed Forces not only countered Houthi threats but also dealt significant blows to Al Qaeda and Daesh, liberating key regions in Yemen.
The UAE’s efforts extended to securing strategic areas such as the Gulf of Aden and Bab Al Mandeb Strait, critical to global trade. Addressing Yemen’s humanitarian crisis was also a priority, with air and sea relief bridges providing aid to combat famine, rebuild infrastructure, and improve living conditions.
Beyond military actions, the UAE leads initiatives to counter extremist ideologies. Its inclusion in the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh in 2014 highlights its proactive stance, contributing to halting Daesh’s territorial expansion in Syria and Iraq.
The UAE has also established influential platforms promoting tolerance and moderation, including Sawab Centre (2015) and Hedayah, the International Centre of Excellence for Countering Violent Extremism (2012). These initiatives aim to challenge extremist narratives and promote coexistence.
In 2014, the UAE founded the Muslim Council of Elders and the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies, fostering dialogue to address sectarian and ideological conflicts.
