GENEVA: The UAE reaffirmed its commitment to responsible AI innovation at the Global Conference on AI, Security, and Ethics, organised by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR).

Omran Sharaf, Assistant Foreign Minister for Advanced Science and Technology, joined Robin Geiss, UNIDIR Director, in discussions on AI’s impact on global security and ethical challenges.

Sharaf stressed the urgent need for international collaboration, particularly as non-state actors gain access to critical technologies. He emphasised responsible knowledge-sharing and robust regulations to protect global security and peace.

Jamal Al Musharakh, UAE’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, echoed this sentiment, highlighting that global cooperation on AI within the United Nations framework is vital to ensure AI serves the common good, promotes peace, and preserves shared values.

The annual UNIDIR conference brings together diplomats, military leaders, tech industry experts, and academics to address AI’s complex implications for national, regional, and global security.

With AI evolving rapidly, the UAE remains a leader in advocating ethical innovation, pushing for AI advancements that align with global security and prosperity goals.
