DUBAI: Dubai Municipality has launched the second edition of the Hatta Farming Festival under the ‘Dubai Farms’ programme. This initiative, led by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aims to empower Emirati farmers and advance sustainable agriculture.
Running at Leem Lake until January 22, the festival features 25 local farmers and agricultural enterprises. The event highlights Hatta’s potential as a premier agri-tourism destination while supporting the UAE’s growing agricultural sector.
Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dhahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, emphasised the festival’s alignment with national food security goals. She stated, “The festival fosters sustainable farming, celebrates agricultural heritage, and supports local production of strategic crops.”
Marwan bin Ghalita, Acting Director-General of Dubai Municipality, outlined the festival’s importance in bolstering Dubai’s food security strategy and providing resources to Hatta farmers. These include fertiliser and seed distribution, pest control programmes, and modern farming guidance.
The festival offers exhibitions, workshops, and interactive sessions. Highlights include success stories from local farmers, agricultural product displays, and competitions like livestock auctions and awards for outstanding farmers. Visitors can access Dubai Smart Mobile Laboratory services for crop and water testing.
Dubai Municipality’s ongoing support includes distributing over 24,000 bags of fertiliser and conducting 1,250 field visits to enhance farming practices. Notably, the Strawberry Model Farm, a tourist attraction, showcases sustainable agriculture.
Aligned with the Hatta Comprehensive Development Plan, the festival strengthens Hatta’s role as an agricultural and tourism hub. By inspiring innovation and fostering sustainability, it empowers local farmers and reinforces Dubai’s commitment to food security and economic growth.
