DUBAI: From January 1, 2025, a new truck movement restriction will be enforced on Emirates Road between Al Awir Street and Sharjah. Trucks will be banned during evening peak hours from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, as announced by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police.
This move is part of RTA’s strategy to expand truck movement bans on key Dubai roads to ease congestion, enhance road safety, and boost capacity for private vehicles. It follows the April 2024 introduction of a similar ban on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road during peak hours.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Acting Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, stated, “The ban on Emirates Road aims to ease traffic, reduce accidents, and prevent the overlap of trucks and smaller vehicles during peak hours.”
Dubai’s truck bans are part of a broader traffic strategy. Al Ittihad Street, Meydan Street, Sheikh Zayed Road, and residential areas near Sharjah face 16-hour truck restrictions from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Urban corridors like Airport Street, Oman Street, and Damascus Street have targeted bans during morning, afternoon, and evening peak hours.
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, stated, “This measure aligns with RTA’s goal to cut traffic congestion, improve road safety, and enhance the driving experience. The plan was developed in collaboration with Dubai Police, DP World, and Dubai Airports.”
By controlling truck movement on major routes, RTA aims to create smoother traffic flow, particularly in high-traffic zones like Emirates Road. Commuters can expect a more efficient evening drive from January 2025.
