DUBAI: Dubai Municipality, in partnership with the Community Development Authority (CDA), has launched the ‘Safe Water for a Healthy Community’ initiative to enhance water system safety in senior citizens’ homes and villas. This effort aligns with the UAE’s ‘Year of the Community 2025,’ reinforcing a sustainable and supportive society.

The initiative aims to improve public health by ensuring that household water systems meet top international standards. Through technical inspections, lab testing, and community engagement, authorities will address potential water contamination risks, ensuring a safer living environment for residents.

The first phase will cover 42 homes across 10 areas in Dubai. Specialist engineers will conduct field inspections, collect water samples, and test them at Dubai Central Laboratory. Any contamination risks will be promptly addressed in collaboration with water treatment experts.

Dr Naseem Mohammed Rafee, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, highlighted the project’s role in preventive health. “Dubai Municipality is committed to ensuring a safe and healthy environment. This initiative enhances public health protection, improves water quality, and strengthens Dubai’s sustainable health system through proactive measures and community engagement,” she stated.

Muhannad Saeed, Director of the Senior Citizens Department at CDA, stressed the initiative’s importance in improving senior citizens’ well-being. “Safe water is essential for health and daily comfort. Our collaboration ensures high-quality water standards, reducing risks and improving overall life quality,” he said.

To promote awareness, Dubai Municipality and CDA will host educational workshops at Dubai councils, teaching best practices for maintaining clean water systems. Residents are encouraged to disinfect water tanks every six months using approved companies to prevent bacterial growth and ensure safe water supplies.

Through preventive measures and community awareness, this initiative aims to safeguard public health and promote long-term water safety in Dubai.
